If annonymous DFI sources are to be believed, Phoenix/Award BIOS' may be a thing of the past, as we've been informed that the parent company that produces the much loved PC backend system is set to close down.This is backed up by that fact that in the past, DFI have been stalward users of the Award platform for their motherboard development, but puzzled some when with their more recent P55 board they chose to make use of BIOS competitors American Megatrends.
This closure could be related to the growth of the Extensivle Firmware Interface (EFI) which looks set to change the way we utilise BIOS functions in the future and has seen steady growth since the inception of the UEFI forum in 2005.
If this is true, many will be saddened by the closure, as until EFI becomes more prevalent serious overclockers will be forced to use AMI's creations. Considering many enthusiasts prefer Phoenix/Award BIOS' and have been using them for years, this could be a sad day for many.
