Speedo last year released a new technology of swimsuit, that allows for much improved swimming times at the highest level of competition. Now though, with several world records being brought home by people wearing the suits, including the world record setter from the Olympics last year, Michael Phelps, a huge spate of development has begun by other companies; seeing the release of several different suits.
The new materials used and manufacturing techniques are seen to be behind many of the record smashing that occurred last year.
One of the major issues with the new suit production however, is that they can only be warn by people sponsored by the makers; which is why only some wore the Speedo suit last year.
Michael Phelps was awarded a $1 million bonus from Speedo for beating Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals. He has decided to stick with Speedo.
"It does take away from some things," Phelps said. "A lot of swimmers are going to put up a lot of great times this summer, and a lot of it is going to be headlined by the suits. I just think it's not fair to other athletes and the athletes out there performing."
