Introduction
Windows Live Messenger, or “MSN” as it is still known by most users is undoubtedly one of the most popular IM clients in the world. With Version 2009 a host of new features have been added, some of which we like; others less so. One of the most annoying changes is requirement to have certain file types scanned by an antivirus package before you can send or receive them. Whilst we agree that security is important, we don’t want to be mollycoddled by Microsoft every time someone sends us a Zip file.
Currently there are two options. You can either point MSN towards your chosen antivirus software to scan each attachment, or you can allow the horrendously slow and annoying “Windows Live OneCare safety scanner” to handle it for you. Elect for neither of these choices, and the types of file you can transfer are restricted to just a smattering of picture and music extensions. Fortunately XSReviews has an exclusive third option for you that will allow power users to send and receive any file types without restriction or AV interference.
