Installation

Installation requires the removing your motherboard, so pray for a removable mobo tray, or if you are doing a complete install.

I’ll be installing this cooler on our CPU cooler testing rig which consists of an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ dual core with Artic Silver as the thermal paste. The install was given the whole ‘curing’ period that AS5 commands of 200 hours.

Once you’ve got the backplate on, you have to chuck on a couple of washers, then the mounting brackets. Now pick out the red washers and screw this into place.

Working on the cooler itself, you have to choose which brackets to use. One pair allows for top-down mounting, while the other pair means that the Silentator is mounted left to right. These brackets fasten onto the base of the cooler with the four provided screws.

Now you have to drop the spring screws down through the top of the cooler through the two holes. Using the provided screw driver, you screw these into the brackets on your motherboard and you’re all set, bar connecting up the fan controller and plugging it into your mobo header.

The overall height of this cooler doesn’t allow for it to be used in a slim-case or the Sunbeam UFO case. However, the cooler is raised by the heatpipes so that there is a smaller chance of it conflicting with surrounding components.
