There are brackets and clips for all sockets, even the outdated 478, so you won’t find that this cooler isn’t compatible.

I will be installing the Mugen 2 on an LGA775 socket. The first step is to screw in the metal assembly clip to the base of the Mugen 2.

The Scythe cooler uses a universal back plate which does mean that motherboard removal is obligatory. Once this is done align the correct holes on the backplate (for your socket) and the holes on your motherboard. Remember to put on a blob of paste too!

The cooler then fits over the CPU and using the longer screws is secured to the backplate. Then just plug in the connector to the motherboard.

With some motherboards there have been a few mounting issues especially with the heatsink above the chipset causing problems with the clips used to attach the fan to the heatsink. For my motherboard, this wasn’t really an issue as the heatsink is relatively small but the wire clip was still very close to it. Therefore, for some motherboards this cooler may simply be too big.

Also, note that you can install the fan on all four sides of the cooler to suit you, or if you wish use two fans with them on opposite ends.
