Thankfully, ATP cares for your hands and blood pressure by packaging the ToughDrive Mini in an easily-opened plastic package.

Once inside, you get the ToughDrive Mini itself, and also a small karabiner style clip so that you can take your ToughDrive Mini anywhere without fear of it falling off. Like the Petito, the loop for the karabiner is on the made body of the drive, rather than the lid so you won’t end up with just a cap left and the USB drive lost.

The body of the drive is made of a synthetic polymer that’s designed for shock absorption and water resistance. The ribs on the side of the drive are designed to give greater grip so you can easily insert and remove the drive from your favoured USB port. This is critical to the drives usage considering its small side. Like the Petito, the ToughDrive Mini comes with the SIP (System In Package) which has all of the vital parts of the USB drive encapsulated to allow the drive to be shock, water and dust proof. In fact, the drive seems to just be a more manly re-work of the Petito, as it has all of the same features and a similar size.

The only differences that can be noticed from the packaging and the drive itself are a small activity LED that’s sited next to the raised white lettering of the ToughDrive Mini logo. The ToughtDrive Mini also has additional software included designed to ease you through the task of synchronization. The same security software is also included, that allows you to partition some space for secure information, while leaving the remaining for public access.

Like the Petito, the ToughDrive Mini also has the turned-up bottom ‘lip’. This seems like a really good idea that should have been done a long time ago. With a rolled edge of metal, its MUCH harder to bend or dent (that’s why plastic cups have ribs and not smooth sides) meaning that the end of this drive is going to be able to go through a whole lot more punishment before it’s unusable.

The drive is rated as being able to transfer files at 30 mb/s which is by no means slow (around half the speed of a HDD). Providing that this statistic is correct, it should make for transparent transfer times.
