Conclusion

This heatsink does exactly what it sets out to do; cool. It does the job well, and it can be run easily in either passive or active forms.

However, finding a motherboard that needs this level of cooling is difficult, and unless you want to sink £15 into this cooler, plus Thermalright’s £15 PWM cooler too, you won’t be able to use it with most modern motherboards. While this is an improvement on the original HR-05 in terms of its mounting solution and heat dissipation, the much higher price-tag doesn’t really make it seem worthwhile compared to its sibling. The bottom line is that if you want the pinnacle in air-cooling for your chipset, the Thermalright HR-05 IFX is it, but finding a motherboard to partner with it will be difficult.
