TX-2
The Tuniq TX-2 paste is the next step in Tuniq’s heatpaste range, which obviously started with the TX-1 thermal grease which now appears to be discontinued in favour of this new version. Tuniq are the makers to the well-renowned Tuniq Tower which many PC owners are using today so this heatpaste will hopefully bring with it the same accolades.
The paste is delivered in a much more petite package than the Noctua NT-H1 paste, with a simple clear plastic bag with the 3.5g tube inside. The top of the packet shows the various features of the paste with figures that for the most part are too much for the average consumer. Unlike the Noctua paste, this one doesn’t come with any installation instructions; running on the assumption that if you’ve fished out this product from a shop then you’ll know how to use it. If you want to read about application methods, check out our glossary entry here.
The composition of the heatpaste appears to be a closely guarded secret as the website doesn’t give any information about the recipe. However, it does explain that the paste is a mixture of various sized particles that sit in the tiny gaps on your processor IHS and the base of your heatsink. In doing so the surface area of contact between the two is enhanced and hence the conductivity increases.
There is no tool packaged that will allow you to spread the heatpaste should you wish to. While this isn’t necessarily a downside to the product, it should be noted that determined spreaders won’t get a new toy to play with.
Like the Noctua NT-H1 paste, this one also doesn’t require you to let the paste burn-in/set etc. before it performs at its best; once paste hits CPU, its working at its full potential. As I’ve explained before, this isn’t really a particularly fantastic feature as most people are happy with the extra cooling after the 200 hours rather than expecting it.
