Conclusion

The P7P55D Deluxe works very well and overclocks impressively allowing for a clock of 4.0GHz combined with a BLACK frequency of 190 and probably headroom for even higher with a better cooler. The Deluxe version adds a number of extra features over the basic P7P55D version but the £170 price tag does seem a little excessive considering many “budget” P55 boards seem to offer similar specs at just over the £100 mark.

Of course not all the included features are exactly useful but there are a number that are worth investigating. The one-button auto-overclock produces some encouraging clocks; obviously not as high as if overclocking manually but useful nonetheless. Added to that, other buttons such as the Mem-OK button and TurboV remote allowing for a range of functions to be carried out at the touch of the button, combine to make a good all-round showing.

The layout is spot on, partly due to having more room with the exclusion of a Northbridge but everything is in plenty of space and unlikely to show up any compatibility or mounting problems. Aesthetics wise the board is awesome and everything is pointing towards a great product save one.

The price just doesn’t tally with the LGA1556 rig, supposed to be a mid-range platform, this board is as much as several X58’s and with the i7-920 offering better performance, it seems poorly placed.

Overall, it’s a top notch board and demonstrates ASUS’ expertise in the motherboard sector it’s just a shame the sales team went a little overboard with the pricing.
