Conclusion
As with the Ensemble, the ceiling limit of 1000W is a little excessive with even dual 8800 Ultra’s. The PSU can’t support more than 4 PCI-e power cables, and hence can’t power three Ultra’s which would be pulling closer to the limit of this unit. You could use molex to PCI-e adaptors, but the use of these isn’t encouraged according to GPU manufactures.
As power supplies are more efficient when at higher loads (upwards of ~70%) it would make sense to purchase an efficient power supply that gives 20% headroom for future upgrades, overclocking etc. rather than getting the highest wattage unit you can afford. Unless you have a computer that actually gets close to pulling 1000W then there seems little point in getting such as unit, and there is a lot to be said for calculating your expected usage before shelling out on a power supply. With that said, this PSU does exactly what it sets out to do, and that is provide 1000W and keeping the rails in check.
The FSP Everest 1010W manages to spit out stable, tight rails while keeping the package in a smaller scale than comparable units which allows smaller cases access to high wattage units. Consider the modular design and FSP is onto a winner.
