Testing

The rest of the test rig was as follows:

AMD 64 3500 + Venice Core @ 2.4ghz
DFI Lanparty SLI-DR
1gb (2 * 512) Crucial Ballistix PC3200
XFX PCX 6600 @ Stock
TT Armor Case - Only a single 90mm Exhaust fan

To test this PSU I took readings of the 3.3, 5 and 12 volt rails after 30 mins at idle and 30 minutes of load. To take the readings I used Speedfan and a digital multimeter.

Speedfan

Idle
Load
3.3v
3.3
3.28
5v
4.95
4.95
12v
12.03
12.03

Multimeter

Idle
Load
3.3v
3.31
3.27
5v
5.07
5.04
12v
12.26
12.3

As you can see the rails are very stable, with almost no fluctuation between the Idle and Load readings. However, you may have no noticed that there is a pretty huge difference between the readings of the multimeter and the readings from speedfan. The question here is which one to trust? Well multimeters are calibrated specifically to test voltages in components and therefore should provide a much more accurate reading. However, due to the fact that the voltages are being tested through a molex cable and not directly from the motherboard (Like Speedfan does), there is a little room for error. Even so, the multimeter readings are probably more accurate, but taking a rough average between the two is probably the best way to go when judging the rails of a PSU.

If you are erring on the side of the multimeter results however, I will say that the voltages are a bit off from what they should be. 12.26 is rather high, however as you can see at least the rail is stable, only straying 0.04v when moving from idle to load.

Noise Levels

The Spire Rocketeer III is very, very quiet. Almost inaudible with no other fans running. It definitely paid off not using a second fan at the read of the PSU, as the silence is a very much welcomed feature.

Cost

I was unable to find a UK supplier of the Spire Rocketeer III to check UK pricing, however from some US E-Tailers you can get one for anywhere between 50 and 100 dollars. The Average price being around $65, therefore around £40. This is a pretty good price for such a quiet, stable PSU and you would be hard pushed to find a comparative PSU elsewhere on the market for that price.
